Win Up to $50,000! A GUIDE TO DATA DAO HACKATHON — Registration and Judging Criteria

The DATA DAO Hackathon is sponsored by the Filecoin Foundation and hosted by FilSwan and is still open for registration after the FIL-Toronto Summit. As of now, more than 50 teams have registered for the competition. We have ameliorated the rules and are now looking for more Web3 tech experts and enthusiasts to join this programming brainstorm.

To make it easier for you to understand how to participate and ensure that interested developers and teams do not miss registering due to various problems, we have written a registration guide and introduced the judging criteria of this hackathon for your reference. Feel free to ask any of your questions in FilSwan’s Discord. We’re delighted to help with that and discuss it with you.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE DATA DAO HACKATHON & SUBMIT YOUR PROJECT?

1. Register for the Hackathon

If you have not registered, please submit your team information on the registration page of the Data Dao Hackathon website as soon as possible.

Note: The project submission Due Date is at 10:00 PM September 11th, 2022 EDT. Not everyone in the team has to register. It only needs one member in the team to fill in the team information. And after registering, you will receive our Email. Please reply to it as required and you can get free NFTs.

2. Submit Your Project

If you have already registered for the Hackathon, next you will need to submit your project on the Dorahacks website.

2. 1 Register a DoraHacks account

BUILDers should submit their BUIDL projects via https://dorahacks.io/hackathon/27/detail. But before that, make sure that you already have an account.

Use the Sign in/up button at the upper right corner of the page to access the sign-up options.

Github, crypto wallet, and email are supported for creating an account. For BUIDLers, we recommend you connect the account to your GitHub to make more people know what you are building at any time.

*You may be asked to receive a verification code via email. The email may take some time to arrive. No worries! The code will not expire in 10 minutes when you click “send code”.

2. 2 Submit BUILD

Before the submission of DDL on September 11th, please make sure you have added your Github link to the project. You can submit the project first, and edit it later before the DDL.

Go to https://dorahacks.io/hackathon/27/detail and click “Submit BUIDL”.

→ If you already have a BUIDL on DoraHacks

Choose your BUIDL project from “Apply with Existing BUIDL” and identify the track you want to join.

→ If you want to submit a new BUIDL

Before submitting, you need to create a BUIDL project. Click “Create a new BUIDL” and fill in the form as required. You’ll be directed to the “Apply for Fil-Toronto Hackathon’’ page after the new BUIDL setup.

Note that for the demo, demo link, and social media, please offer URLs (with http/https://).

Don’t forget to check “I agree to the User Agreement”.

Back to the Application window. Choose your BUIDL project from “Apply with Existing BUIDL” and identify the track you want to join.

When submission succeeds, you’ll see this notification.

2. 3 Project verification

Wait! Don’t just leave your BUIDL here and forget about it. Please contact DoraHacks staff on Telegram @dorahacksofficial for project verification and promotional support. They’ll make every BUIDL a poster and arrange a live project demo session for you via Youtube Live/Binance Live. Don’t let go of the chance to receive huge visibility!

Want to make some changes to your BUIDL?

You can edit any details of your project in “My Profile-edit”, including project description, team members, tracks and bounties, etc.

For technical questions, you could find our mentors in the FilSwan Discord for help, and we also have a Mentor Week during which you could raise your questions and find the answers.

REQUIREMENTS & JUDGING CRITERIA for the DATA DAO HACKATHON

Judging Criteria for All Projects

· Accuracy of the solution
· Number of bounties/bugs solved
· Quality of the PRs
· Creativity

Specific Requirements and Judging Criteria for the 5 Tracks

1. Network drive — Best use of IPFS/Filecoin for file storage — $12,500

Requirements

  • An IPFS/Filecoin-based network drive
  • It should contain user upload/delete and modified function
  • Support MCS is a plus

Judging Criteria

  • Novelty/Creativity: Does it have unique and novel features or combine features of other products or services in a unique and novel way? Does it solve a new problem? Is it creative and puts a smile on people’s faces?
  • Potential Impact: Does it fill a gap in the universe, and have the potential to be used frequently by a large, growing and diverse audience or market? Is it
  • Technical Accomplishment: Is the code elegant, clean, and technically interesting? Is the project complete?
  • Filecoin & IPFS Implementation: Does the project interact with IPFS/Filecoin under-the-hood (i.e., more than simply retrieving a CID from a gateway)? Does it use MCS, NFT.Storage, Web3.Storage, or other storage helpers?
  • Design: How is the UX/UI/DX? Is it easy to use? If targeting developers, is the experience smooth and intuitive? Does the visual design delight you?
  • MCS Implementation: Does the project interact with any feature or tool of MCS? It would be an advantage to implement MCS into the project.

2. Multi-Chain Storage with FilSwan Network — $20,000

Requirements

You must use MCS as the primary storage tools,e.g. MCS IPFS

3. Computing Over Data — $15,000

Requirements & Judging Criteria

  • You need to store the data on IPFS/Filecoin network.
  • Retrieval data to local instance by code.
  • You can run different programming languages for computing.
  • Having a GUI is a plus.

4. Community Choice — $2,500

The Twitter community will be able to share their fav submissions in the hackathon! The project with the most retweets will win the prize.

5. Forest — $500 CAD

Requirements & Judging Criteria

  • Install Forest dependencies. Compile and run Forest.
  • Solve the bug, and test your solution works on your local machine.
  • Submit Draft PRs to the Forest repository.

RULE FOR THE PRIZES

  • Submitting the same project across multiple hackathons will lead to disqualification
  • Only projects or features (preferably in a separate branch) built specifically for the respective hackathon will be considered for prizes
  • Broken links may disqualify the project from the judging process
